Production Update
– Tue, Feb 13, 2018 at 11:44:17 PM
Hey Everyone,
We wanted to give our loyal backers an update on production, fill you in on our updated timeline and tell you what you really want to know… When you will get your daypack(s).
I know we mentioned Chinese New Year in our last update, but just a refresher… Essentially all of Asia shuts down for 3 weeks in February to celebrate. For you select few that geek out on Chinese history, you can read up on Chinese New Year here.
As happy as we are that essentially all of Asia gets a fantastic holiday, it doesn't help our cause in getting your bags delivered as soon as we had hoped.
The good news is that all of the custom dyed fabric has arrived in Vietnam and the cut process has been finalized. Once our manufacturer is back from Holiday (February 26th), sewing will proceed, and bags will be finished and on a ship within three weeks. Our original goal of shipping by March is unlikely, but bags will be headed your way by the beginning of April.
Part of our problem and delay is that we are perfectionists (it makes for a really rad bag though). The initial fabric that we approved prior to our campaign came in bulk, and was just slightly off of our approved color. We had to make a tough call, knowing that it would set us back a few weeks, but we opted on making sure we got the exact color we had hoped for. It was well worth the wait.
The ADAPT accessories that came from other manufacturers (bladders, dry bags) are already making the pilgrimage across the Pacific, and will be landing in our fulfillment center within the next few weeks.
Trust us, we are just as bummed as you. We don’t take your leap of faith on our product/brand lightly. Pony’ing up your precious hard earned 💰 to pre-order a product you haven’t even seen in person or had your greasy paws on is tough.
We realize that, and that is why we have been working hard to ensure everything is perfect and you are stoked as all get out when that box shows up on your doorstep.
Because of this small delay, we want to make it up to you by offering you 25% off of your first order on our website. We will provide you all with a code that will be valid for your first order. We have some exciting products in the pipeline that we can’t share with you quite yet. But first, let’s get you your daypacks!
As a new brand, one of our core values is transparency. WANAKA would not exist without rad customers (you), and we want to thank you all for being part of the journey. Thanks for understanding. We will get the bags out to you as quick as possible!
As always, reach out to us with any questions.

Hey Everyone,
We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and the start of 2018! We are excited for the new year and have some big things in the works for 2018, but first, we need to get you your daypacks so you can really start adventuring!
Which brings us to this update, and the question you have all been asking…. WHEN AM I GOING TO GET MY DAYPACK?
Long story short, things are clicking along smoothly and we are on track to meet our Estimated Delivery Time.
Production
As we mentioned in a previous update, the production of our custom fabric is the longest stage of production. Our custom fabric has been ordered and is currently being produced. Our ripstop nylon is being sourced from one of the leading technical textile factories in the world. All good things take time. Once the nylon hits our factory in Vietnam they will open additional production lines to help us expedite production and crank out the cut and sew stages within 3 weeks.
We are hoping to have production wrapped up in Vietnam by early-mid February which means your orders will arrive to the USA by the end of February/Early March and immediately shipped to you.
Our main hurdle to hit this deadline is ensuring our fabric hits our factory in Vietnam with enough lead time to produce the packs before Chinese New Year. You are probably asking…. Why does Vietnam celebrate Chinese New Year? Well, they do, it's called Tet. Like most of Asia, they shut down for a solid couple of weeks.
We were hoping to make an early delivery happen but with holiday closures, that likely isn’t going to happen. We are still on track for our estimated delivery time of March. It isn’t the best timing for us in terms of manufacturing, but we are doing everything we can to get things wrapped up and shipped to the USA prior to CNY.
Different Manufacturers: We are sourcing some of the WANAKA ADAPT accessories from different manufacturers and a few different countries. All of these are way ahead of schedule for delivery, so once the daypacks hit our fulfillment center, they are immediately headed out to you all.
We appreciate your patience and promise you that the wait is worth it. We are streamlining our process every day, and are extremely excited to bring you all some more innovative products in the near future. Get Stoked!

Hey Wanaka Backers! It's time for a production update and a quick survey to enter our giveaway.
Now that production is underway we're stoked to get started on our next product! We know, we know, you haven't even gotten your first one yet... BUT the Design/Prototype process is a long one so we're getting started now. We have some really cool ideas but the bottom line is if we don't create products our core customers (you) are stoked on then we're not doing our job. SO... Please take this survey to let us know what you want to see next from WANAKA.
We will be randomly choosing TWO people who have completed the survey to win our next product and 10% off at WanakaOutdoors.com FOR LIFE. Yup, you'll get the next product we roll out for free and a VIP 10% off discount code to use for life. Make sure to enter your email on the last question to be entered.
Production Update
Things are going great on the production side of things. The longest process to complete production is confirming the custom fabric lab dips before producing thousands of yards of nylon and of course, making that fabric takes a while. We're proud to say we are well along that process and on track to meet our goals. The cutting, sewing, and assembly of the backpacks really doesn't take that long. By the time the fabric is completed, our factory will have all the other raw materials ready to go so as soon as the ripstop nylon hits the factory floor, they will begin production which should only take about 3 weeks.
We will continue to keep you updated with the latest delivery projections. We know you're excited to get your backpacks and start adventuring with them. Trust us when we say we're equally excited to get them out for you. The waiting game is the hardest part about crowdfunding but you know the saying...
"Anything worth having is worth waiting for."
Some guy on the internet said that once so it must be true. But in all seriousness, we're doing everything we can to speed up the production process without cutting any corners on quality. Delivering a quality product you'll have for a life full of adventure is our number one goal.
As always, thanks for your support and don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Survey Reminder/Deadline, Back Ventilation, and Hip Pads
over 8 years ago
– Mon, Oct 23, 2017 at 08:11:16 PM
Hey All,
Survey Reminder & Deadline
Just a quick reminder for those of you who haven't completed your survey to do so ASAP. The deadline for surveys to be completed is Wednesday, October 25th. If you haven't filled it out by then we can't guarantee you will be able to get your first choice in color.
Back Ventilation
Several of you have asked about back ventilation and we decided to make a last-second change to include it with the backpack. The reason for leaving it out originally was to help with packability and the compression function but we realized some breathability on the back panel was important to many of you. Of course, there is a little bit of a trade-off on both ends but we worked on a design that would be the best of both worlds. Our minimalist ventilation design does exactly what it needs to. There is just enough padding to provide ventilation and keep the nylon off your back while not being too bulky to pack small. Here's a picture of how your backpack will look:
Hip Pads
As most of you have seen while taking your survey, we decided to design and offer removable hip pads. We were recently on a six-day trek up Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa (19,300 ft). We tested the hip pads on this trek and they turned out to be a perfect accessory for heavier loads and day in/day out trekking. Also, the hip pads pictured on your survey only had a zipper pocket on one hip pad. The final hip pads will have zipper pockets on both sides.
Between the added ventilation and the hip pads, this packable daypack is definitely ready for anything you can throw at it. We can't wait to get it in your hands!
